Job Description:
New Opportunity Project Director NES Fircroft is actively
seeking Chemical Engineers for a Project Director role with our
client, a Major Midstream Oil & Gas Pipeline and Terminal
Operation! This position will be a full-time contract opportunity,
ideally targeting candidates local to the Chicago region but our
client could potentially be open to remote candidates who would be
open to travel for this position. Our client is seeking a Project
Director with a background in Oil Refinery Process Engineering to
lead a new large scale Capital Project with is currently in FEED.Â
Experience with Renewable diesel and avaiation fuels would be a
strong preference for our client given the nature of the project.Â

Position Overview: The Project Director will be responsible for the
successful planning, execution, and delivery of complex midstream
oil & gas pipeline and terminal projects. This role requires a deep
understanding of refinery process engineering operations, as the
director will manage projects related to the optimization,
maintenance, and expansion of pipeline systems and terminal
facilities. The Project Director will oversee the project life
cycle, from concept through to completion, ensuring all goals are
met with respect to scope, schedule, budget, and safety. Key
Responsibilities: Leadership & Management: Lead and manage
multidisciplinary teams to deliver major projects within budget,
scope, and timeline. Provide strategic direction and leadership in
project planning and execution. Manage and mentor project managers,
engineers, and other team members to achieve project success.
Project Planning & Execution: Develop project plans, including
timelines, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure
alignment on project scope, objectives, and deliverables. Manage
the entire project life cycle, including conceptual design,
procurement, construction, commissioning, and start-up. Technical
Expertise: Utilize expertise in chemical engineering and refinery
operations to ensure technical integrity in project design and
execution. Provide engineering guidance on process improvements,
optimization, and system modifications. Ensure compliance with
industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental
requirements throughout all stages of the project. Budget &
Resource Management: Oversee and manage project budgets, ensuring
efficient use of resources and timely delivery within financial
constraints. Forecast project costs, allocate resources, and handle
financial reporting. Risk Management & Safety: Proactively identify
and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle. Foster a
culture of safety and ensure adherence to safety protocols and
environmental regulations. Manage the resolution of any
operational, technical, or project issues that arise. Stakeholder
Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for all project
stakeholders, including senior management, external contractors,
clients, and regulatory bodies. Regularly update senior leadership
and other stakeholders on project status, challenges, and
successes. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemical
Engineering or a related field. Experience: Minimum of 10 years of
experience in oil & gas operations, specifically in refinery
process engineering. Extensive experience in midstream oil & gas
pipeline and terminal operations. Proven track record of
successfully managing and delivering complex engineering projects
in the oil & gas industry. Skills & Competencies: Strong
leadership, project management, and team-building skills. Excellent
knowledge of refinery processes, pipeline operations, and terminal
infrastructure. Proficient in project management software and tools
(e.g., MS Project, Primavera, etc.). Ability to analyze and resolve
complex technical and operational issues. Excellent communication,
negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Certifications (Preferred):
PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent project
management certification. Relevant safety certifications (e.g.,
