This leadership position oversees the U.S. Materials Review strategy, process and, in partnership with BTS, systems, to ensure effective, efficient and compliant delivery of promotional and non-promotional communications, tools and programs to all stakeholders (i.e. HCPs, consumers, patients, health plans, etc) . Provides strategic and tactical vision, leadership and direction to a significantly sized organization of Associate Directors, Sr. Managers and Project Managers responsible for the material review process and systems that support ~$37B annual sales, and effectively collaborates with and influences without authority across the cross-functional leadership team, including in the global organization. This position sets process standards, guidelines, and policies for the review process for U.S. Commercial Marketing and Sales Excellence team members, medical reviewers, regulatory reviewers and other key stakeholders to ensure the appropriate and timely review of all promotional and non-promotional materials. The individual in this position must communicate openly and effectively with the U.S. Commercial brand teams and leadership and provide consultative, strategic, and tactical support to achieve business objectives and speed to market. Additionally, this position serves as the liaison between all functional areas within the process (marketing, sales training, market access, medical review, ad-promo regulatory affairs, legal, OEC, IT, advertising agencies, print vendors, fulfillment vendors) to ensure proper review paths are established and followed across the organizations. The leader in this position must partner and influence across multiple internal and external cross-functional areas to achieve goals. This individual must be able to think expansively to evolve the materials review process to the ever-pharma landscape to enable the companies continued success and the changing fabric of the company.

Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality systems that capture votes on materials review and that serve as a repository for all approved assets in the organization.

This position is accountable for all quality and compliance updates related to the Materials Review Process and related systems and takes a leadership role at all senior level compliance reviews in the US Area.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Subject Matter Expertise: Understands all aspects of the Material Review process from review through production and release including a thorough understanding of the policies, processes and required systems along with knowledge of how to navigate the process and systems for most efficient outcomes and speed to market. Is decisive and is the decision maker when it comes to any questions related to materials review processes and systems. Understands the spirit and intent of policies and is able to “make the call”. Understands the objectives of the businesses and defines a process that enables achievement of the goals of the company.

Launch Execution: Fully execute product launches and new promotional campaigns by leading IBT teams through the commercial launch strategy utilizing and/or developing launch ‘best practices.’

Vendor Management: Assesses the overall effectiveness of Vendors involved in the Review process and print production to ensure they are meeting business and compliance needs for Abbvie US Commercial Brand teams. This individual leverages knowledge of marketing goals to support business strategies and objectives.

Process / Project Management: Ensures all required activities to support success are appropriately coordinated across teams from concept through final approval and release which includes managing conflicts / issue escalation and resolution, identifying bottlenecks and bringing all parties together to resolve issues. Provides solutions and contingency plans to facilitate business success, exerts authority, as appropriate, for exceptions to process, holds self and team accountable for results, provides innovative solutions to project hurdles.

Promotional Labeling: Partner with Regulatory Operations and Global Label Management to standardize safety documents, production and promotional labeling for new product launches and label changes.

Maintains ongoing communication with cross functional leaders to ensure that processes and policies remain appropriate for changing business environment and that best practices are established across the organization

US Commercial Promotional Review Compliance Review: Key point for Promotional Materials Review Audits and compliance discussions, ensuring that policies and procedures are being adhered to across the organization, and that issues identified are quickly resolved to maintain compliance standards

HR Leadership/Management: Establishes a productive work environment by creating trust and respect within the department. Sets a vision and focus for the team. Creates opportunities to recognize and reward outstanding individual and team performance and consistently provides feedback. Completes all phases of Performance Reviews including setting goals, providing regular feedback/coaching and development planning. Leads the recruitment efforts for his/her team to ensure position are filled in a timely manner with qualified and high-caliber personnel.

Oversees large, enterprise level initiatives that have broad impact.

Cost Optimization: Identifies efficiencies to reduce overall spend, with particular focus on automation and digitization.

Sets strategy and vision for the team, and helps team set goals to achieve it the vision.

Demonstrates the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.

Under stress, is able to maintain a positive, optimistic attitude and approach to work

Shares and documents best practices and lessons learned to drive consistency in approach and enhance overall functional and business success

Qualifications

Basic:

B.A./B.S./Business, Communications or Advertising (MBA not required, but desirable) or equivalent business experience within AbbVie or a related industry.

Knowledge of applicable regulations and standards affecting Pharmaceutical Products (e.g. CFR 210/211, cGMP) specifically,

10+ years of experience in project or program management

5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical industry

5-7 years managing people and departments

Proven leadership competencies to include setting vision and strategy, building teams, knowing the business, driving for results, and encouraging open exchange of ideas and knowledge.

Strong, proven management experience across multiple functions including management of exempt personnel in fast-paced, service/team environment.

A highly motivated change agent that drives business-focused solutions.

Strong written, verbal and presentation skills with the ability to distill highly complex requirements into compelling business objectives, providing confidence and influence across functions and levels

Strong problem-solving abilities in complex, compliance regulated department.

Accountability & Scope:

Reports to Vice President within Commercial Analytics and Operations.

Works with senior management across Marketing, Medical, Regulatory, Legal, HR, corporate, Quality, IT, and other internal functions and key vendors.

Oversees functional team of approximately 60 Full Time Employees and 10 Contractors.

Represents Marketing Operations in cross-functional activities.

Organizational lead on Promotional Materials compliance within the US Area within external and internal guidelines.
