SUMMARY The Racket Club Front Desk Associate reports to the Front
Desk, Pro Shop & Childcare Supervisor or Club Manager and is
responsible for greeting club members and process new memberships
and customers coming to the club, answering the telephone,
answering questions about the club and its operations, answering
questions about the park district and its operations, booking court
time, recording operations information, selling pro shop
merchandise, making change, balancing the cash drawer, cleaning and
straightening the lounge and locker rooms, laundering towels, drag
and lining clay court, processing transactions on the computer.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalent; and at least one year
customer service experience
- Possess a working knowledge of office procedures, office
equipment, and basic computer software as well as correct
punctuation, spelling and grammar
- Demonstrate the ability to consistently communicate in a
friendly verbal fashion with employees and patrons both in person
and on the telephone
- Demonstrate behavioral flexibility, good public relations and
tactfulness. Patience is also a character trait that is important
when working with the public
- Ability to respond to inquiries and requests via mail, email,
telephone, voicemail, facsimile or in person from staff, vendors,
the general public and other sources
- Capacity to provide high level of customer service to internal
and external customers
- Ability to cooperate with and interpret Park District
philosophies in relation to governmental, public and private groups
and agencies and the general public
- Ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees, patrons,
community groups and other units of local government
- Ability to work independently day-to-day operations with
general direction from immediate supervisor
- Capacity to utilize effective time management skills and be
able to work under the stress of multiple deadlines, requests from
other departments and interruptions with accuracy
- Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required
work
- Capacity to be self-motivated and achieve goals with minimal
supervision or direction

- Capacity to proactively troubleshoot, problem solve and make
sound judgments with respect to confidentiality
- An interest in or background in playing tennis is very helpful.

- Timely and courteously answering telephones, greet members,
guests and dispatch messages promptly
- Promote Park District programs to patrons, members, guest and
staff
- Develop and maintain positive customer service with internal
and external customers
- Attend staff meetings, as required
- Inform management of problems and make recommendations for
resolution
- Follow all club and park district procedures and policies and
safety procedures
- Answer the phone, book courts over the phone, transfer callers
to another extension, and give out information over the phone
- Greet members and guests coming to the facility, ask guests to
sign the guest book and process new memberships
- Give out court assignments, sign out demo racquets
- Answer member and customer questions about the club operation
and programs, give out information about the club, handle member
complaints
- Accurately record court bookings, changes in court bookings,
sales information, demo checkouts, league scores, tournament
scores, other information and enter on the computer
- Balance the cash drawer, run court hour totals, assists with
pro shop inventories
- Sell pro shop merchandise, answer questions about pro shop
merchandise
- Make cash and club account sales, give correct change, and make
charge card sales
- Give messages to members and staff
- Tidy up the lounge areas, kitchenette, and locker rooms; damp
wash counters and windows; vacuum carpet
- Collect, wash, dry and fold towels
- Performs job safely and in compliance with District policies,
procedures, work and safety rules, and the personnel policy
manual
- Report any unsafe conditions to the Club Manager and Human
Resources Manager for action
- Drag and line outdoor clay courts
- Shovel snow as needed during snowstorms
- Act as the designated 911 caller in times of emergency MARGINAL
FUNCTIONS
- Troubleshoots any problems

PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS
The Front Desk Attendant's work time is spent sitting or standing
behind the front desk talking on the telephone or to members or
guests in person. The Front Desk Attendant will walk to and from
other areas of the club, carry towels to the laundry room, put
towels in the washer and dryer, clean tables and countertops, and
push chairs back into position under tables.

- Requires hearing within normal range for telephone and customer
service
- Requires eyesight, correctable 20/20 to read numbers, forms,
reports and computer terminals
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate
a computer keyboard, copy machine, telephone, calculator, fax
machine and other office equipment.

PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS
The Front Desk Attendant may feel pressure from the responsibility
of the effective and efficient delivery of services.
PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS
Prolonged standing during busy months could affect some
individual's blood pressure.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
The Front Desk Attendant will be using a computer and office
equipment. The Attendant may be exposed to weather conditions,
including extreme heat and cold, snow, rain and ice. Most
activities are performed indoors; these conditions include lighting
and temperature. The Attendant may also be exposed to various
chemicals, such as fertilizers, weed killer, chemicals, cleaning
agents, oil and fuel.
COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS
The Front Desk Attendant must exhibit good problem-solving ability
and good judgment. The Front Desk Attendant must also demonstrate
good safety awareness.
